I bought a small 16" slash cut from JC Whitney that had an internal (and removable/packable) baffle for $14. It was the perfect size for the bike. The first time I started it up I saw every cat close to the house fuzz out and haul butt to the closest tree. I took off down the road and jumped onto the highway which is about 1/4 mile away. Everyone at the house heard me "gun it" onto the on ramp and heard me for at least 1/2 mile away. I scared all the cars off the road and by the time I got back about 10 minutes later, my ears were ringing. One good point about the pipe was that I seemed to get some really good power in 5th gear. After 2 days of riding around the neighborhood I started to see a bunch of dirty looks coming from some HD riders. The bike was TOO loud. None of the local bike shops had any muffler packing to wrap the baffle with, so I headed over to Home Depot and picked up some pink insulation (that Pink Panther itchy stuff) and it did the job pretty good until 3 days later when it finally burned or blew out of the baffle. I then grabbed some fiberglass matting that comes with Bondo and wrapped it... now it became even more quiet than the stock muffler. It has been a hassle trying to get it the right sound, so if you have the time to mess with it, have fun! I have also found that a HD Sportster pipe works pretty good with a few shims to fit it onto the stock header. By the way, ALOT of Sportster stuff fits on the Savage.
